SCCMS Foundation 7th Annual Charity Golf Outing

Friends of the St. Clair County Medical Society,

The SCCMS Foundation's seventh annual charity golf outing was this past Sunday (May 31st), and was a great success. On behalf of the St. Clair County Medical Society Board, I want to extend a heart-felt thank you for your commitment to making this event so successful.

The St. Clair County Medical Society represents the ‘Community of Physicians’, and their families, of St. Clair County. This Society, through strong leadership and commitment, engages its membership in volunteerism in the community, professional and community education, advocacy of physician practice and patient community health issues, and provides its members with the identity and pride that fosters social, recreational and cultural interactions and activities. The SCCMS Foundation is a non-profit charitable fund sponsored by the St. Clair County Medical Society. The proceeds from the Foundation have helped support organizations and causes such as the YMCA Fun Run, the Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health, the Girl Scouts – Michigan Waterways Council, and the St. Clair County Science Fair “Best in Science” award. Our annual charity golf outing helps us to fund Foundation activities for the year. Your generous contribution help to make our vision a reality. Fort Gratiot Hospital Project Moves Ahead

    Foundation Helps Preserve History

The SCCMS Foundation and the Society's members have been supporting the Fort Gratiot Hospital Museum project -- the renovation of a hospital that was part of Fort Gratiot in the 1800's. Like it's sister hospital on Mackinac Island -- the Society hopes this future museum will 'tell the story of medicine in St. Clair County".

Dr. James Copping, Treasurer of the SCCMS Foundation and long time history buff has actively participated in committee meetings, on site inspections of both the Fort Gratiot Hospital and the Mackinac Island Hospital, and commissioned Mr. Terry Henlein - local Port Huron artist -- to paint a watercolor picture of what the Fort Gratiot Hospital would have looked like in the mid 1800's when it sat within the Fort near the Thomas Edison Inn property.

The Henlein watercolor has been reproduced and is part of our 'thank you' for donations of $500 or more to the project. The reporduction is studio quality and appropriate for hanging in physician offices. Dr. Bassam Nasr, Board Member of the SCCMS Foundation said, "the picture is so very nice, and I hope to continue to donate to this project, giving the signed Henlein picture as gifts."
